A Mother's Instinct and a Split-Second Decision
Valentyna Poltavchenko's heart raced as she realized her daughters, Matilda and Summer, were nowhere to be found amidst the chaos of gunshots at Bondi Beach. Earlier, the sisters, hand in hand, had ventured towards the petting zoo at the Chanukah by the Sea celebration, their faces painted, bubbles floating, and sweet treats enjoyed.
As the sun began its descent, families gathered for the Chanukah candle lighting, and the girls requested a short walk to pet the animals. Little did they know, their innocent outing would take a terrifying turn.
"I thought it was firecrackers," Valentyna recalled, her voice trembling. "But then, the reality hit. Michael and I searched frantically, and that's when we realized it was a shooting."
